It has been through the tests and trials various times\u00a0<i>\u2013 namely the 1969 War , the 1975 Indo Pak War , Operation Cactus Lily and last but not the least \u2013 operation SafedSagar \u2013 where our bravehearts raided the hilly terrains of Kargil dropping bombs on enemy bases \u2013 earning them the moniker \u2013 \u201c Vajraayudhs \u201c \u2013 \u201c the thunder wielders \u201c. Not only in war , the IAF also plays key roles in relief operations , search and rescue and even disaster management \u2013 recent examples being \u201c OperationDost \u201c &#8211; a relief mission undertaken by India to help Turkey and Syria with aids , medical support and even crucial airlifts.<\/i><b><i><br \/>\n<\/i><\/b><br \/>\nA lot has changed since the inception. What started as a humble fleet of about 100 aircrafts including Dakota Spitfire , Typhoons and British made Brewster Buffalo \u2013 stands proudly about 37 squadron strong today \u2013 boasting\u00a0<b><i>of being the 4th largest airforce in the world \u2013 boasting of some of the most sophisticated fightercrafts in the world \u2013 Dassault Rafale , JAS -39 Jaguars being some of them.<br \/>\n<\/i><\/b><br \/>\nHowever , what India gains in number is negated by its dependency on soviet era aircrafts \u2013 namely the MIG and the SUKHOI series to name some of them. However , this situation has been in the airforce\u2019s bucket list for a while \u2013 as in his inaugural speech for the 2023 aero India show \u2013 the PM shared his vision \u2013 of how India plans to launch itself as a global aviation hub and superpower \u2013 both in military and civil airspace.<\/span><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"x1e56ztr\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Civil_Aviation\"><\/span><strong><span class=\"x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u\">Civil Aviation<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"x1e56ztr\">\n<p><span class=\"x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u\"><b><i>Tata joins hands with Boeing \u2013 IndiGo to follow suit<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>The biggest event in the aviation sector of India in FY 22-23 was the acquisition of Air India and AI Express by the Tata group on a business deal of of 18000 Cr rupees. Aiming to replace the old jetliners \u2013 Tata is speculated to sign a deal with Boeing , Lockheed Martin Corp. to supply around 500 aircrafts<\/i>\u00a0&#8211; in a deal of around 1000 billion dollars in the process &#8211; IndiGo is also expected to follow suit \u2013 making India a potential hot selling market for global aircraft manufacturers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"x1e56ztr\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Military_Sector\"><\/span><span class=\"x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u\"><b>Military Sector\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"x1e56ztr\"><span class=\"x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u\">India is a significant aerial superpower as of right now \u2013 and the aim is to make it compatible with the 5th and 6th gen fighters that countries like US and China use. However \u2013 the aim to modernize and upgrade the fleet follows a bifurcated approach:<\/span><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"x1e56ztr\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Collaboration_with_Foreign_Defence_Contractors\"><\/span><span class=\"x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u\"><b>Collaboration with Foreign Defence Contractors <\/b><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div class=\"x1e56ztr\"><span class=\"x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u\"><b><i>Lockheed Martin<\/i><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 the official defence contractor of the USAF is eager to work with India \u2013 and India has played a smart move of letting HAL collaborate with the aviation giant \u2013 thus ending India\u2019s direct dependency on foreign contractors and suppliers \u2013 also<b><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>the opportunity to work with British firm might help us develop our indigenous version of whatever they bring to the table.\u00a0<b><i>Rolls Royce Merlin PLC<\/i><\/b> is also in talks \u2013 for developing a new engine system for the highly coveted F22 Raptor \u2013 the newest addition to India\u2019s arsenal \u2013 soon to be operational as a separate unit.<\/span><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"x1e56ztr\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Direct_Pitching_of_Indias_Aircrafts_in_Foreign_markets\"><\/span><strong><span class=\"x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u\">Direct Pitching of India\u2019s Aircrafts in Foreign markets <\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div class=\"x1e56ztr\"><span class=\"x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u\">India is no slouch when it comes to autonomous production and self sufficiency as <b>HAL made LCA ( Light Combat Aircraft ) Tejas and LCH ( Light Combat Helicopter ) Prachand\u00a0<\/b>being the pinnacle of India\u2019s technological supremacy.
