I\u2019ll refer to the Professor as P. The older professor asked trickier ones, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P: What books are you reading?<br>Me: Sir, I am reading a book called \u201c10-Day MBA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P: What? A book about an MBA in 10 days; how is that possible? Shouldn\u2019t you sue them for fraud?<br>Me: No, sir, we should not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P: Why not?<br>Me: Because it is a selling point, and the book has useful ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iquanta.in\/gdpi-course\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"286\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iquanta.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-178-1024x286.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38953\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iquanta.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-178-1024x286.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.iquanta.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-178-300x84.png 300w, https:\/\/www.iquanta.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-178-768x214.png 768w, https:\/\/www.iquanta.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-178-150x42.png 150w, https:\/\/www.iquanta.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-178-696x194.png 696w, https:\/\/www.iquanta.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-178-1068x298.png 1068w, https:\/\/www.iquanta.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-178.png 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Join the GDPI course by iQuanta which has produced 500+ 99 percentilers in CAT 2024 and prepare for your MBA journey ahead.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P: But the book renders us jobless\u2014if people can get an MBA in 10 days, why should they come to XLRI for two years?<br>Me: Yes, sir, I agree, but like many marketing campaigns designed to attract customers, the book\u2019s title is to attract the readers. The book is essentially just a blip of what an MBA teaches and is useful to gain points for an interview but not for a diploma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other question that stood out for me was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P: How did you prepare for your MBA Interview with XLRI?<br>Me: I did it mainly from YouTube just recently. I was listening to Mr. CV Rao giving a lecture in IIM Ahmedabad about the 360-degree appraisal, and I learned about a manager who was an asset to a company financially but a loss to the company in human resources because the employees working with him kept leaving. Thus he added more cost to the company, but because HR cannot be financially defined, the loss he was causing was never substantiated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P: Can you tell me more about the 360-degree Appraisal?<br>Me: Sir, it is an anonymous review of the manager or an employee where the co-workers disclose information and rate the manager\u2019s performance in non-quantitative ways. We then run an analysis to realize the manager\u2019s performance. The biggest thing about a 360-degree appraisal is its scope and anonymity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P: So how do you strike a balance between performing managers not liked by his team versus non-performing managers liked by his team?<br>Me: Sir, we can strike a balance by introducing training programs for both. I ended my interview by telling the panel that if I am offered admission to XLRI, I will become the next Leena Nair or Rakesh Kapoor of XLRI and that XLRI would be proud of me. The older professor remarked, \u201cI should not be next to anyone but the first me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Points To Remember:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Research about the college you are going to give the interview for\u2014its alumni, its legacy, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reach out to seniors of the college to gain experience in the interview process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search for interview experiences from all sources possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read domain-specific books\u2014specifically if it is an HR interview.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be confident; missing out on an answer or not knowing an answer is not a big deal and can happen to anyone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add a line or two during the interview that is attractive and unique about you. It can help the panel remember you for a long time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Verdict:<\/strong> Converted XLRI HRM<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was one of the many XLRI Jamshedpur interview experiences.
