The National Medical Commission (NMC) has stopped the approval for new medical colleges, an increase in seats, and a renewal of the existing number of seats for the AY 2025-26. This decision was made in response to fraudulent activities involving the acceptance of bribes in exchange for favourable assessment reports of medical colleges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to CBI reports, bribes were accepted in exchange for submitting favourable inspection reports for several medical colleges that lacked qualified faculty, proper infrastructure, and adequate healthcare facilities. In response, NMC has made it clear that no corruption will be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against all such incidents as per the provisions of the NMC Act and regulations. CBI has conducted searches at over 40 medical colleges in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the media reports, various institutions have gained approval from the NMC by giving bribes to their officials and manipulating regulatory rules. Till now, 36 people have been arrested, and the list comprises 11 individuals from the central and health departments. Three doctors linked to this fraudulent case have also been arrested by the CBI. The fraud is anticipated to be more than Rs 1,000 crore.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
