CLAT 2027 Logical Reasoning Syllabus

Logical Reasoning is a high-scoring section for CLAT 2027. It is divided into two parts, Analytical Reasoning and Critical Reasoning. In this blog, we will be covering important details about the Analytical Reasoning Section of Logical Reasoning and how you can ensure that you score high marks in it. 

Logical Reasoning has around 20% weightage in the entire paper, but this is where the exam will check if you think like a law student or not. You need to be able to read fast, break down arguments, see patterns and avoid common fallacies. 

CLAT 2027: Logical Reasoning Section

For CLAT 2027, the structure of the exam is: 

  1. Reading Comprehension: 22-26 questions, 20% weightage
  2. Current Affairs: 28-32 questions, 25% weightage
  3. Legal Reasoning: 28-32 questions, 25% weightage
  4. Logical Reasoning: 22-26 questions, 20% weightage
  5. Quantitative Techniques: 10-14 questions, 10% weightage

You can clearly see that Logical Reasoning has a high impact, even a few mistakes here can move you a lot of ranks. The good thing, however, is that the section is deeply linked with the English section. What this means is that if you have a strong hold in the English section, you will be able to solve Logical Reasoning easily. 

CLAT 2027 Logical Reasoning: Analytical Reasoning Syllabus

The consortium has informed that the syllabus is usually: 

“A series of short passages of about 450 words each. Each passage will be followed by one or more questions that will require you to:

  • Recognise an argument, its premises and conclusions;
  • Read and identify the arguments set out in the passage;
  • Critically analyse patterns of reasoning, and assess how conclusions may depend on particular premises or evidence, and how conclusions may be strengthened or weakened as a consequence of an alteration in premises or supporting facts;
  • Infer what follows from the passage and apply these inferences to new situations;
  • Draw relationships and analogies, identify contradictions and equivalence, and assess the effectiveness of arguments.

CLAT 2027 Logical Reasoning and more specifically, Analytical Reasoning tests topics such as:

  1. Puzzles and Arrangements: 
  • Questions about Linear seating, people sitting in a row facing north, south, etc
  • Circular Seating, facing outside or inside
  • Distribution, assigning people to rooms, days, etc
  • Scheduling, who can do what under which condition 
  1. Series and Patterns
  • Number series, identify the missing or next term
  • Letter series
  • Mixed series
  1. Blood Relations
  • Questions such as “A is B’s mother’s brother, how is A related to the brother?” etc
  • Can be mixed with seating arrangements
  1. Direction Questions
  • A person walks 50 metres towards the north, then turns left. Final position?
  1. Ranking and Order 
  • Who is taller, shorter?
  • Combined ranking from top and bottom 
  1. Syllogisms
  • Statements such as “All a are b, some B are not C, No D is B”
  • Venn diagrams
  1. Coding-Decoding
  • Words are coded as per a pattern, find the code. 
  1. Odd one out 
  • Pick the item which is not as per the group.

In CLAT 2027, questions will be put in the form of short passages, and you might have to identify the pattern. Questions might be purely verbal, but require thinking like puzzles. 

CLAT 2027: Preparation Tips for Logical and Analytical Reasoning Section

  1. Build a foundation for CLAT 2027 logical reasoning:

Practice Daily, identify the main topics and form a schedule. Divide the topics as per the weeks you have available. 

For example: 

Week 1: Direction Questions and Blood Relations

Week 2: Puzzles and Seating

Week 3: Syllogisms and coding-decoding

Week 4: ranking, series, classification 

For every topic, do untimed and then timed practices. Allocate a timing for each question, stick to that in mocks. 

  1. Draw it and Practice 

Draw tables for puzzles, arrows and compass for directions. Use venn diagrams for syllogisms.

Do not make silly mistakes like treating it as just a common sense section. The questions are designed to confuse you. Do not fall in that trap.
