The Lok Sabha has passed a bill to establish a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Guwahati, Assam. A budget of Rs 550 crore has been approved for this project. It will join IIM Shillong as the 2nd IIM in the Northeast and the first in Assam. According to Mr. Pradhan, the 21 IIMs in India have gained brand recognition globally. He stated that there is a growing request to establish IIMs in other nations. He also revealed that the Dubai campus of IIM will open officially next month.
The bill highlights that the plan to establish IIM Guwahati is linked to a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) agreement signed by the Union, Assam government, and ULFA. It assured the state’s overall progress. Furthermore, setting up IIM Guwahati is a crucial component of the Special Development Package (SDP) offered to the state.
