Here’s what you need to prepare for:

  1. The Situation Test (For B.Des):

As per NIFT criteria, the Situation Test is a hands-on evaluation of your creativity, material handling skills, and 3-D design model. You are required to create a 3-D model within a timeframe, for which the theme and materials will be provided to you. Students should practice mock situation tests with limited materials, put more focus on neatness, innovative ideas, and also conceptual clarity for the write-ups.

  1. The Studio Test and Interview (For B.Des—Lateral Entry):

The Studio Test for the NIFT entrance exam stage 2 includes practical tasks similar to the situation test, portfolio submission, academic background, and your design conceptual clarity. Students are advised to prepare a solid portfolio, revisit your UG course structure, and practice being vocal about design interests and career goals.

  1. Personal Interview (For PG programs—M.Des, M.F.M, M.F.Tech):

At this stage, students will get evaluated on their communication skills, domain knowledge, and motivation. You will be required to provide insights about your UG projects, industry trends, and personal aspirations. Students should enhance knowledge of the latest fashion industry news, current affairs, and common interview questions and have clear reasons for choosing NIFT and your specific course.

  1. Technical Ability Test (TAT) + Interview (For B.F.Tech—Lateral Entry):

This stage 2 of the NIFT entrance exam includes technical questions related to apparel manufacturing, textiles, and engineering, followed by a personal interview. Students are advised to revise key technical concepts and fashion and design industry basics.

NIFT Entrance Exam Preparation Tips

  1. After the NIFT entrance exam stage 1 results, shortlisted B.Des applicants are called for the Situation test. This will examine your innovative mind, how carefully you handle the material, how you will manage your time, and your conceptual clarity. Set a timer for at least 30-45 minutes and practice. Using different materials, create a model.
  2. Also, after practicing, write a small explanation describing your model.
  3. For GD, keep your knowledge high on current fashion trends. Practice speaking clearly and confidently, and when in doubt, do not disappear; find the midway.
  4. For PI, know and understand your portfolio well. Always be ready to answer, “Why NIFT?” and “Why this course?”
