Who is CAT Topper Rishav Banerjee?
CAT topper Rishav Banerjee has an exceptional background. He completed his 10th and 12th education from the state board where he scored 94% and 95% respectively. Later, he pursued Mechanical Engineering with a CGPA of 8.9. Along with his excellent academic scores, he took up responsibilities as a class representative and coordinator that helped him build leadership qualities early. After completing graduation, he completed his internship and joined Saint Gobain where he started his corporate journey.
For the past 2-3 years duration, he has been working in the Sales and Marketing field in Pune location. His MBA journey began in 2020, where he decide to prepare for the CAT exam first time but due to some situation, he couldn’t appear for the exam same year. In 2022, Rishav gave his first CAT attempt where he scored 95.6%ile. In 2023, he again appeared for CAT with better preparation and support from iQuanta and secured an amazing 99.83%ile, received calls from IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Shillong, SP Jain as well as FMS Delhi.
CAT Topper Journey: How Rishav Converted IIM ABC with 99.83%ile?
Balancing a corporate job along with CAT preparation was not easy for Raghav but he made his job a motivating factor rather than a hurdle. Working in Sales gave him an overall exposure of the real business situations. His study plan covers the simple approach but is disciplined. On weekdays, he studied for 2-3 hours after work and on weekends, he dedicated his time around 4-6 hours itself for practice across sections. In August to September, his focus shifted towards giving mocks both full length as well as sectionals to cover time management along with building exam temperament.
He maintained consistency during preparation along with job where he continued with the balanced plan covering 2 hours during weekdays and atleast 4 hours during weekdays for practice questions.
CAT Topper Strategy: Section-Wise Approach
VARC (98.92%ile)
In the VARC (Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension) section, Rishav focused on attempting more questions ensuring accuracy. He overall attempted 20 questions and out of which 13 were correct. He believes that increasing attempts in the exam strategically improves scoring chances in the VARC section
LRDI (99.72%ile)
Rishav’s biggest improvement was in LRDI section. When he gave his first attempt in CAT, he scored 60%ile and later he made a strategy to improve his scores by covering two sets accurately rather going to attempt all. This strategy helped him in scoring 99.72%ile in the LRDI (Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation) section.
Quant (98.83%ile)
Being a engineering background, Quant section is a little easy for him to cover. In, QA section instead of attempting all the questions he maintained accuracy where he answered the selective question but he planned whatever he answered, it will correct. He majorly covered his CAT Quant preparation through mocks and practicing daily which helped in maintaining fundamentals strong.
For mocks, his lowest earlier score was 12, but with consistent effort, he raised his average to 50–55 and even scored 102 in one of the mocks. He suggests that candidates aiming for 99+ percentile should target 75–85 in mocks.
