But the merit list published is provisional because the candidates are required to fulfil certain criteria to get the final seat allotment. What is the First Merit List of the CLAT Exam All About?
The Consortium of NLUs releases the CLAT first allotment list as part of the CLAT 2025 counselling process. This list consists of the seats allocated to the students in various NLUs based on their CLAT 2025 rank, category and the preferences opted by them during the counselling process.

Steps to Download the CLAT 2025 First Merit List

- Candidates have to first visit the official website
- They have to click on the CLAT 2025 button
- In the notifications bar, they must click on the CLAT allotment list link
- The CLAT merit list PDF will then be displayed on the screen
- The candidates can now download the CLAT 2025 merit list and then save it for future reference

After the candidates download their first merit list, they will receive the following details:
- All India rank of the candidates
- Admit Card number
- Horizontal reservation category
- Vertical reservation category
- Status of admission
What happens after the Release of the CLAT 2025 First Merit List?
The candidates who are selected will have to choose from freeze, float and exit options. Check the meanings of these in detail:
- Freeze: Candidates who have got their first preference NLU seat in this list must choose this option. After this, they must pay the fees by 30th May to confirm their seats.
- Float: Candidates who did not get their first NLU preference and want to change their allotted NLU must go for the float option. These candidates should also pay their fees by 30th May.
- Exit: Candidates who do not want to continue in their counselling process and hence want to exit can choose the exit options. Therefore, such candidates are not required to pay the confirmation fees.
