CAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria
To sit for the CAT 2027 examination, candidates should fulfil these pointers to get eligible for the CAT examination in a detailed manner.
- Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with atleast 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA or 45% in case the candidate belongs to an SC, ST or PwD category. The respective degree should be awarded by any university or educational institution as incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature in India or declared to be deemed as a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognised by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
- Candidates who are in a final year or awaiting the result can also apply to sit for the CAT 2027 examination. But their admission should be considered if they submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of their University/Institution (issued on or before the date as stipulated by the respective IIM).
- Candidates who completed their professional degrees in CA/CS/ICWA/CMA/Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI) with a required percentage can also apply for the CAT 2027 exam.

CAT 2027 Marking Scheme (Expected)
The CAT marking scheme is a straightforward approach, but actually knowing how marks are awarded in the main exam actually makes a big difference to how you approach the examination. As per the latest exam pattern, the Common Admission Test awards you +3 marks if you marked correct answer whereas -1 in case you marked the incorrect answer, and 0 for an unattempted answer. You can expect the same marking scheme pattern in CAT 2027.
Well, knowing the CAT marking scheme will help a lot of aspirants in preparing for the examination so that they cannot mark any option by just randomly guessing it.
There are two different types of questions asked in the CAT exam, and those are MCQs and TITA (Type In The Answer). This should be important for the candidates to know alongside so that during preparation they are not only making their minds on marking answers based on options which come in the form of Multiple Choice Questions whereas get ready for the TITA questions. Candidates have to prepare for the CAT 2027 examination by keeping all these indispensable pointers in mind.
For example, suppose you attempt 20 questions in a CAT section. If you get 15 MCQs correct and 3 MCQs wrong, while leaving 2 questions unanswered, your score from these questions would be:
15 correct × 3 = +45 marks
3 incorrect × (-1) = -3 marks
2 unanswered = 0 marks
Therefore, your total score would be 45 − 3 = 42 marks.
Similarly, if you attempt 5 TITA questions and get 4 correct, you would receive 4 × 3 = 12 marks, with no negative marking for the one incorrect answer.
So, your CAT score depends not only on the number of questions you attempt but also on accuracy and the type of questions you attempt.

CAT 2027 Registration Process Breakdown
The CAT 2027 notification is expected to be released in the month of July 2027, and the CAT registration starts in the month of August 2027 and ends in the month of September 2027.
The initial process to sit for the examination is to complete the registration process, and this comes with various keysteps.
Step 1: Register for CAT 2027
Students will have to first register for the CAT 2027 exam online by visiting the official website (when the link is updated or available), which is iimcat.ac.in. The steps for CAT exam registration have been stated below here.
- Visit iimcat.ac.in and click on Register under the New Candidate Registration section.
- Enter the name as stated in the Class 10/SSC certificate.
- Enter the date of birth, active and valid email address, country and active mobile number.
- Click on Generate OTP.
- Enter the CAPTCHA and submit it to receive the OTP.
- Enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number and click on Validate the OTP.
Click on ‘proceed’ to move to the next step.
Step 2: IIM CAT Login for Online Registration
- Visit the CAT website and click on Login under Registered Candidate Login.
- Enter the CAT 2027 User ID, Password and CAPTCHA that will be sent to your registered email ID and mobile number and click on Login.
- Verify the Applicant Details and proceed to fill out the complete application form for the CAT 2027 exam.
Step 3: Fill Personal Details and Upload Documents in CAT Registration Form
CAT 2027 registration has to be completed by filing the personal details, communication details, address and other details. Once the details are filled in, the next step is to upload the relevant documents.
- Photograph: The passport-size photograph must be in JPEG format of 1200 × 1200 pixels and not more than 80 KB.
- Signature: The signature should be in JPEG format of 80 mm × 35 mm up to 80 KB in size.
- Upload the applicable category or disability certificate in PDF format, wherever required.
Once these are done, click on ‘Save and next’.
Step 4: Enter Academic Details during CAT 2027 Registration
Candidates will have to enter their Class 10, Class 12, diploma, Bachelor’s degree and other applicable academic details.
After completing the academic details, click on Save & Next.
Step 5: Enter Work Experience
Candidates have to enter their full-time, post-graduation work experience in completed days up to July 2027. If one does not have any work experience, then he or she should proceed further.
Note: Part-time jobs, internships, articleships, academic projects and work experience gained before graduation are not counted as valid work experience.
Step 6: Select Programmes and Interview Cities
Candidates must select the management programmes offered by the participating IIMs from the programme selection section.
Step 7: Select CAT 2027 Test Cities
Candidates have to select five different test cities in order of preference.
