What is the JEE Main Exam?

JEE Main stands for the Joint Entrance Examination or JEE (Main). This exam takes place at the national level twice a year. This exam is primarily divided into two papers. Paper 1 is administered for admission to undergraduate engineering courses (B.E./B. Tech.) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) and other institutes recognised by participating State Governments. All the JEE (Main) qualified candidates will have to appear in the JEE (Advanced) exam to be eligible for admission to IITs. Paper 2 take place for students seeking admission to B. Arch and B. JEE Main 2026 Eligibility Criteria: Who can Apply?

The next most important factor of JEE Main 2026 is the eligibility conditions. Candidates should read the notification very carefully to understand whether they are qualified for this entrance test. You must check JEE Main 2026 eligibility criteria for OBC, general, and other categories before filling out the applications. Failing to do so may lead to the disqualification of their candidature in future.   • The candidate should be a citizen of India. Foreign national candidates are not required to appear for the JEE (Main) exam. They can directly register for JEE (Advanced), provided they meet all other eligibility conditions.

  • Candidates who have passed the class XII / equivalent examination are eligible.

JEE Main Minimum Age Criteria 

There is no age limit requirement for aspirants willing to appear in the JEE Main 2026 exam. Candidates who have passed 12th standard or equivalent exam in the prescribed years, irrespective of their age, can apply for JEE (Main) 2026 exam. But they may be required to satisfy the age criteria of the Institute(s) to which they want to secure admission. JEE Main 75% Marks Criteria

The complete details for the 75% criteria for JEE Mains exam will be mentioned in the information bulletin. As per the previous year’s notification, the candidates seeking admission to NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs through JEE (Main) Paper 1 ranks must have scored at least 75% marks in their Class XII examination or be among the top 20 percentile in 12th exam organised by respective board. The qualifying marks requirement for SC/ST candidates is a minimum of 65% marks in Class XII.

JEE Main State Code of Eligibility

JEE Main State code of eligibility indicates the code of the state where the applicants completed their Class XII (or equivalent) qualifying exam, based on which they are considered eligible for the JEE Main 2026 exam. Candidates must understand that their State code of eligibility is not linked to their native place or current residence. For instance, if an applicant has appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) qualifying examination from an education institution located in New Delhi but resides in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, their State code of eligibility will be Delhi, not Uttar Pradesh.

List of Qualifying Exams for JEE Mains 2026

The list of qualifying exams for JEE Main 2026 based on the previous year’s notification is shared below:

  • The final 10+2 examination organised by any recognised Central or State education board, such as CBSE, New Delhi, CISCE, New Delhi, etc.
  • An Intermediate examination or a two-year Pre-University examination organised by any recognised Board or University.
  • Final examination of the two-year program of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  • The Senior Secondary School Examination organised by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), covers at least five subjects.
  • Any public school, Board, or University examination in India or abroad that is recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equal to the 10+2 system.
  • Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
  • A minimum three-year diploma recognised either by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) exam (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level, etc

The JEE Main application process 2026 is divided into multiple stages, such as registration, login, uploading documents, fee payment, and final submission. Here is the step-by-step guide to apply online for JEE Main 2026 without any hassles:

  • Go to the official JEE Main NTA website, jeemain.nta.nic.in.
  • On the homepage, hit the “New Registration” tab.
  • Enter all the required information, such as a valid Email ID, mobile number, and other personal details. They will be asked to create a password and select the Security Question, and enter their answer.
  • After submitting personal details, an application number will be displayed, and it will be used to complete the remaining application form and will also be required for all future use.
  • Now, log in with the system-generated Application Number and password to fill out the JEE Main application form 2026.
  • Enter all the asked personal details, paper exam, choose exam cities, details of educational qualifications and upload the images and documents (if any) in the prescribed format.
  • After completing all the necessary steps of the application form, you will be required to pay the requisite examination fees. The fee payment will be done through online mode using Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card and UPI. 
  • After successful payment, you should print the confirmation page for future reference.

Documents Required for JEE Main 2026 Application Form

There are many documents that the candidates should keep ready in advance before filling out the JEE Main application form 2026. They need to upload the scanned copies of all the necessary documents, i.e. applicant’s Photograph, Signature, Class X or Equivalent in the prescribed format to complete the application process. The list of documents required for the JEE Main 2026 application form is as follows:

  • A recent colour passport size photograph with 80% of the face visible, ears included, without a mask, on a white background. The photograph should be labelled as ‘Photograph’ and must be in JPG/JPEG format (clearly legible) between 10 kb to 300 kb. 
  • The signature file should be labelled as ‘Signature’ and must be in JPG/JPEG format (clearly legible) between 10 kb to 50 kb.
  • A scanned image of Class X or Equivalent Certificate/Marksheet should be labelled as ‘Class-X Certificate’ and must be in a PDF format between 10 kb to 300 kb (clearly legible).
  • Scanned image of PwD/PwBD certificate should be labelled as ‘Disability Certificate’ and must be in a PDF format between 10 kb to 300 kb (clearly legible).

NTA provides the JEE Main application form correction facility on its official website. In this, applicants can rectify errors, if any, in the application form submitted by them. However, only specific details such as category, photo, address and signature can be edited during the correction facility. Elastic and inelastic collisions in one and two dimensions. 
UNIT 5: Rotational Motion: Centre of mass of a two-particle system, centre of mass of a rigid body. Basic concepts of rotational motion, moment of a force, torque, angular momentum, conservation of angular momentum and its applications. The moment of inertia, the radius of gyration, values of moments of inertia for simple geometrical objects, parallel and perpendicular axes theorems and their applications. Equilibrium of rigid bodies, rigid body rotation and equations of rotational motion, comparison of linear and rotational motions.
UNIT 6: Gravitation: The universal law of gravitation. Acceleration due to gravity and its variation with altitude and depth. Kepler’s law of planetary motion. Gravitational potential energy, gravitational potential. Escape velocity, motion of a satellite, orbital velocity, time period and energy of satellite. 
UNIT 7: Properties of Solids and Liquids: Elastic behaviour, stress-strain relationship, Hooke’s Law, Young’s modulus, bulk modulus and modulus of rigidity.
UNIT 8: Thermodynamics: Thermal equilibrium and the concept of temperature, zeroth law of thermodynamics, heat, work and internal energy. The first law of thermodynamics, isothermal and adiabatic processes. The second law of thermodynamics: reversible and irreversible processes. 
UNIT 9: Kinetic Theory of Gases: Equation of state of a perfect gas, work done on compressing a gas, kinetic theory of gases: assumptions, the concept of pressure, kinetic interpretation of temperature, RMS speed of gas molecules, degrees of freedom, law of equipartition of energy and applications to specific heat capacities of gases, mean free path, Avogadro’s number. 
UNIT 10: Oscillations and Waves: Oscillations and periodic motion: time period, frequency, displacement as a function of time, periodic functions. Simple harmonic motion (S.H.M.) and its equation, phase, oscillations of a spring: restoring force and force constant, energy in S.H.M.: kinetic and potential energies, simple pendulum: derivation of expression for its time period.
UNIT 11: Electrostatics: Electric charges: conservation of charge, Coulomb’s law forces between two point charges, forces between multiple charges, superposition principle and continuous charge distribution, etc.
UNIT 12: Current Electricity: Electric current: drift velocity, mobility and their relation with electric current, Ohm’s law, electrical resistance, I-V characteristics of Ohmic and non-ohmic conductors, electrical energy and power, electrical resistivity and conductivity, series and parallel combinations of resistors, temperature dependence of resistance.
UNIT 13: Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism: Biot – Savart law and its application to the current carrying circular loop, Ampere’s law and its applications to infinitely long current carrying straight wire and solenoid.

UNIT 8: INTEGRAL CALCULAS: Integral as an anti-derivative, Fundamental integrals involving algebraic, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions. Integration by substitution, by parts and by partial fractions. Integration using trigonometric identities.
UNIT 9: DIFFRENTIAL EQUATIONS : Ordinary differential equations, their order and degree, the solution of differential equation by the method of separation of variables, solution of a homogeneous and linear differential equation of the type.
UNIT 10: CO-ORDINATE GEOMETRY : Cartesian system of rectangular coordinates in a plane, distance formula, sections formula, locus and its equation, the slope of a line, parallel and perpendicular lines, intercepts of a line on the co-ordinate axis. Straight line: Various forms of equations of a line, intersection of lines, angles between two lines, conditions for concurrence of three lines, the distance of a point form a line, co-ordinate of the centroid, ortho centre and circumcenter of a triangle. Circle, conic sections: A standard form of equations of a circle, the general form of the equation of a circle, its radius and centre, equation of a circle when the endpoints of a diameter are given, points of intersection of a line and a circle with the centre at the origin and sections of conics, equations of conic sections(parabola, ellipse and hyperbola) in standard forms.

JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2026 will be notified by the NTA in the official notification PDF. The JEE Main exam will be administered in three papers. Paper 1 is for B.E. / B. Tech, Paper 2A is for B. Arch, and Paper 2B is for B. Planning. This national-level entrance test comprises objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and Numerical Value Questions.
