Indian Institute of Management Ranchi – IIM Ranchi

The ninth Indian Institute of Management was established at Ranchi in 2009. This was made possible with the extensive support of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and the Government of Jharkhand, working under the guidance of Ministry of Education, Government of India. IIM Ranchi provides a full-time, two-year MBA in general management which is their flagship programme. Being the 9th Indian Institution for Management, IIM Ranchi envisions being the top 10 b-school in the Asian region. It is also one of the New IIMs that was established during the 11th Five-Year Plan. The carefully curated curriculum, the value-based approach, and the all-encompassing nurturing environment of IIM Ranchi are among its greatest strengths. Their programmes are designed to prepare students for the challenges of the real world, to develop them into effective leaders who are grounded and humble, and to instill in them the desire for excellence rather than merely success.

The schedule and the curriculum of IIM Ranchi is much alike any other top b-school. Generally, the first class in IIM Ranchi starts at 9 am and the classes can go on till 4:30 for PGP students whereas, for IPM Students, it ends at 2:15 pm. There is one main hostel then type A, Type C, and F1 and F2 blocks, all residential buildings. IPM01 (First Batch) gets a single occupancy room while IPM02 gets a dual occupancy accommodation. Final year MBA students get single occupancy rooms whereas, if you are in the first-year MBA, you will have to share your room with your peers. The dual occupancy rooms have an attached bathroom and they have facilities like access to a water heater while the single occupancy room has specific timing for the same. All the hostels have house-keeping facilities and IIM Ranchi serves various cuisines in its mess. IIM Ranchi does not only provide good accommodation and food but also sports facilities.

Interestingly, if you become a student of IIM Ranchi, you are called a crow. A crow because of its tough and rigorous curriculum that will make you as adaptive as a crow. Apart from the studies, you can be a part of eight distinct clubs/committees like the marketing club, consulting club, academic committee, Media and Public Relations, Social Responsibility Club, etc. Many HR Conclaves, Colloquiums, Summits, and competitions are conducted throughout the year. These are mostly organized by students, so you will get exposure and experience in handling big events in IIM Ranchi. You will also get many opportunities to take part in b-school competitions that will to challenge your existing thought process and stimulate your existing side thus making your learning fun and enjoyable.

IIM Ranchi is the first Indian Institute to be a participant in the UN Global Compact and PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education), an initiative of the UN Global Compact. The students are required to do a one-day rural visit to the eight-month-long immersion program. You will not only study management principles but also their social impact on the different parts of the community.

Key Placement Highlights over the recent years

The MBA Batch of 2021-23 showed immense success in their final placement process. There was an increase of 7.2% increase in the average CTC offered and a 62.3% increase in the number of recruiters compared to the previous year. A total of 124 recruiters visited the campus with 76 PPOs in a batch size of 399 students. Sales and Marketing was the most preferred functional area and consulting and strategy was the second preferred area. Some of the notable recruiters were Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki Ltd, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase & Co., American Express, State Street, Yes Bank, Amazon, Tolaram Group, Nomura, McKinsey and Accenture Technology Consulting.

The batch of 2021-23 had a balanced group of experienced and fresher students. Students had different backgrounds like engineering, science, commerce, architecture, medicine etc. Sales and marketing were the preferred functional followed by IT & Analytics, Finance, Operations and Strategy. Some of the roles offered were in product management, business intelligence, Data Analyst, Application Manager, Risk Analysis, Retail Banking, Investment Research, Corporate Finance, Digital Marketing, Product Marketing, Business Development, Business Strategist etc. Prominent recruiters were Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, American Express, Anunta, Gartner, Reputation, Lubrizol, Tata Steel, Deloitte, Capgemini, EY, Licious, Asian Paints, Samsung among others.
