Vinayak Agarwal CAT 2025 Topper- 99.99 Percentiler- Complete Journey
Vinayak’s lowest percentile in the mock was around 60-67% in the initial phase of preparation. His stronger area was Quant in the beginning. This was largely because he had earlier taken the JEE and had finished his graduation in Mathematics. English and LRDI were not his strengths. He had studied LRDI long ago during Olympiad days, but was not in touch with it. Initially, he used to score better in Quant. His LRDI scores improved gradually. VARC was his weakest section in the beginning. He remembered scoring around 20-26 marks initially. This was because his VA was not strong, and his RC attempts often went wrong despite feeling confident.
But his performance improved over time. He eventually secured 99.47 percentile in the actual CAT VARC exam. He shared that he started VARC from almost zero and reached 99.47 percentile within four months. This clearly breaks the myth that one needs to be a genius to crack the CAT.

He also shared that CAT is often a second career option for many aspirants. The CAT was not the only plan for him either. If he had received a good career opportunity, he might not have taken the CAT exam. He was still applying for jobs with preparation and had job offers above INR 20 LPA. But it didn’t fit with what he wanted for his career.
Despite his engineering and mathematics background, he was not interested in coding or technical roles. He felt an MBA was the right way to move into non-technical careers. It would help him gain skills that engineering alone could not offer. Especially in understanding people, decision-making, and business perspectives.
On VARC preparation, he admitted it was a humbling experience. He initially thought VARC was only about reading passages and answering like school exams. Mock tests made him realise that CAT VARC requires deep comprehension, concept clarity, and strategy.
He learned VARC concepts mainly through iQuanta’s VARC videos. He especially followed sessions by Shabana Ma’am, whom he described as an excellent faculty member. He first applied techniques to practice questions and previous mistakes before using them in mocks. He gradually developed his own intuition-based strategy. He solved 300-500 RC passages in total. He realised that his VA was not very strong, but his RC was. When he scanned a passage, the entire paragraph would automatically map itself in his mind. He shared that in RC, passage mapping is more important than just solving questions. He states, “Even if you don’t solve 400 sets, you should read at least 200 RC passages and be able to write the summary in four words”
He attempted all RC questions and solved only 1-2 VA summary-based questions in the actual exam. He explained that he chose iQuanta because he wanted a guided approach with a fixed structure. He found iQuanta’s website, UI, free materials, and transparency very impressive. Faculty quality and free materials built his trust. He used advanced modules for Quant and DILR, and live classes for VARC.
He highlighted three major positives of iQuanta:
- Abundance of quality material (which can feel overwhelming but is actually a strength).
- Fast and effective doubt-solving system.
- A strong student community plays an important role. It helps with revision, reminders, and competitive motivation.
Finally, he shared a message for CAT 2026 aspirants:
“Everything happens for a reason. It may not feel like that during preparation. But patience is key. Your time will come. Maybe through CAT or something else. Keep working and trust the process.”
