The National Testing Agency (NTA) prescribes the JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2027. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria are only eligible to apply for the exam. The basic eligibility criteria for JEE Main consist of educational qualification, age limit, nationality, and number of attempts. JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2027 Highlights 

NTA releases the JEE Main eligibility criteria along with the official notification. Students must go through the eligibility criteria before filling out the JEE Main application form. The following table has the major highlights related to the eligibility criteria.

What are the Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main 2027?

In order to be eligible to apply for the JEE Main 2027 exam, candidates must fulfil the age limit and educational qualification. Without meeting these requirements, the candidature will be rejected at a later stage. Below we have shared the details for the JEE Main eligibility criteria in detail. 

JEE Main Qualifying Exams 2027

The Qualifying exams to appear for the JEE Mains 2027 exam will include the final exam of 12th class from any recognized board or university or any other equivalent exam. 

  • Students should have passed class 12 or equivalent or qualified for the exam in 2025 or 2026.
  • Candidates who are appearing in the 12th class or equivalent qualifying exams in 2027 can also apply

JEE Main Age Limit 

There is no age limit to appear for the JEE Main 2027 exam. Candidates should have passed their class 12th in 2025 or 2026 or be appearing in 2027, irrespective of their age. However, the candidates may be required to fulfil the age limit as prescribed by the institute where they will be taking admission. 

How Many Attempts for JEE Main 2027 Exam? 

The JEE Main exam is held twice a year, once in January and another in April. The best scores out of the two sessions are considered for selection purposes. For the JEE Main 2027 exam, the number of attempts is stated below. 

  • JEE Main attempt limit is for three consecutive years.
  • Candidates must have passed class 12 in 2025, 2026, or be appearing in 2027.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria of Subjects in Class 12/Qualifying Exam

The JEE Main class 12 eligibility criteria are listed below for B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Plan.  

  • B.E./B.Tech: Candidates should have passed the qualifying exam/Class 12th with Physics, Mathematics, and any one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical Vocational Subjects.
  • B.Arch: Candidates should have passed the qualifying exam/Class 12th with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • B. Plan: Candidates should have passed the qualifying exam/Class 12 in Mathematics.

JEE Main 2027 Eligibility Marks in 12th for Admission to IIITs, NITs and GFTIs 

Candidates willing to take admission in IIITs, NITs or GFTIs should have passed class 12. They must also have obtained the given percentage based on the course they opt for.

JEE Main Eligibility for Appearing in JEE Advanced

The candidates must be in the top 2.5 lakh ranks to be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam. Candidates are shortlisted based on the reservation category. The percentage distribution of various categories among the top 2.5 lakh applicants as per the previous year’s notification.

  • GEN-EWS – 10%
  • OBC-NCL – 27%
  • SC – 15%
  • ST – 7.5%
  • OPEN – 40.5%
  • PwD – 5% horizontal reservation in all of the above.

JEE Main 2027 State of Eligibility

The state of eligibility needs to be filled in the JEE Main 2027 application form. The details for the JEE Main state of eligibility is stated below. 

  • The state code of eligibility for JEE Mains is not dependent upon the native place or the residence place of the candidate.
  • If a student has passed the 12th class exam or equivalent exam from a state but has appeared for the improvement/supplementary exam from a different state, then the state code where they passed the qualifying exam will be taken into account for eligibility.
  • The class 12th percentage required for the JEE Mains 2026 or equivalent exam from NIOS has to choose the state of eligibility based on the state in which the study centre is located.
  • Indian nationals who have passed class 12 or equivalent from Nepal/Bhutan: their State Code of Eligibility will be the permanent address in India as mentioned in the passport.
  • The State code of eligibility of OCI/PIO passing the class 12 exam in India will be at par with Indian nationals, however, OCI/PIO passing the 12th class exam from a college/institution abroad will be eligible for other state quota seats or all-India quota seats in all NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs (not for Home State quota seats)

JEE Main Exam Eligibility for Droppers

Candidates who dropped a year or two to qualify for the JEE Main exam need to fulfil the given criteria. 

  • There is no age limit to appear for the exam. 
  • Candidates looking for JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2027 for droppers must have passed the class 12 exam. 
  • Only three consecutive terms are allowed for them to take the JEE Main 2027 Examination. 
  • They also must have secured a minimum JEE Main 2027 qualifying score.
  • Students must have taken at least 5 subjects for class 12 or the qualifying exam. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are mandatory.
