There are eight boys’ hostels and two girls’ hostels at IIT Delhi, each being able to accommodate around 400 students. These numbers speak a lot about the huge disparity between the genders on campus. Rooms are allotted on sharing basis, and if you’re lucky you get to have single rooms. However, they never really stay single when you build your friend groups. Then your room becomes the common room where you get together to hang out for assignments, projects, late-night talks, and other ‘mastis’. Anywhere on the campus, there is always something going on.

At the heart of all student activities on campus, the Student Activity Centre includes the gymnasium hall, the swimming pool, the amphitheater, music rooms, workshops, the dark room, the committee room, and other facilities. The extent to which the institute emphasizes the holistic development of the students and their creative expression can be identified by the number and nature of arts and cultural clubs on campus. The Music Club, Dramatics Club, Fine Arts Society, Hobbies Society, Quizzing Club, Film Series Committee, English Debating, and Literacy Club are only a few of the many student interest groups on campus.

DMS IIT Delhi Campus

The campus is not tucked away from the city like most large campuses. Smack in the middle of Delhi, with tall buildings, you get to see some of the best views of the sun rising and setting over the 325-acre campus and the city beyond. You just have to search for a balcony or other spots on the campus high enough. Hippocrates was on to something when he said ‘Nature itself is the best physician’. These are your healing spots, where you get to feel all the stress and worries that threaten to overcome you, quietening down.

The workload at DMS IIT Delhi is enormous. By the end of the first six months though, you get familiar with the lifestyle. You learn to balance both work and life. As months go by, you somehow end up in a phase where you can hang out with yourself and friends to party or relax for a couple of hours every day and still get done with the required submissions and study sessions. This would have been unimaginable during your initial days on the campus.
