IIM Calcutta has released its MBA Admission Procedure for MBA 2027–29 batch. IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria is done in three stages. The first stage is the screening of candidates based on CAT 2026 score, 2nd stage is the  Personal Interview and Written Ability Test and the last stage is the  composite scores using several parameters that include CAT score, PI, WAT scores, work experience and academic diversity. 

Candidates are screened via three rounds to be considered for an MBA programme at IIM Calcutta. Candidates must satisfy the minimum CAT percentile requirements before being considered for further rounds of selection. IIM Calcutta MBA Eligibility Criteria 2027 

Candidates who apply to IIM Calcutta for an MBA programme must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent in graduation. Candidates who belong to the reserved categories such as SC, ST and PwD need to have at least 45%. 

Those candidates who hold a foreign degree must have its equivalence certified by the Association of Indian Universities.

Candidates who are in their final year of graduation can also apply. However, such candidates must possess the prescribed degree-completion and documentation requirements within the given timelines.

What is IIM Calcutta Selection Process: Stage Wise Criteria 

Admission to IIM Calcutta for MBA programmes is done in three stages as specified below: 

Stage 1: CAT 2026 percentile screening for next stage
Stage 2: Shortlisting candidates for for PI and WAT
Stage 3: Final selection based on the final composite score

Apart from the given selection criteria, the marks obtained by candidates in Class 10th/12th and work experience will also be included. 

Stage 1 IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria: CAT 2026 Cut-Off

The first stage of the IIM Calcutta selection process is the CAT 2026 score screening round. In this stage, candidates need to meet the section-wise and overall percentiles in CAT 2026 exam.  Candidates must also have non-negative raw scores in all three CAT sections. The category wise cut off marks required for CAT screening is specified in the table below. Candidates must take a note that merely qualifying the given cutoff does not guarantee admission. These are general cutoff marks that are necessary to fulfill.

Stage 2 IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria: Shortlisting for PI and WAT

Those candidates who qualify stage 1 are eligible to take part in stage 2 of the IIM Calcutta selection criteria. The 2nd stage is shortlisting for Personal Interview and Written Assessment Test which is based on the composite score derived using the parameters and the corresponding weights as specified below.

The CAT component is calculated using the candidate’s overall CAT 2026 scaled score relative to the maximum possible overall scaled score. Female and transgender candidates receive 4 points under the gender diversity component.

Candidate’s academic performance in Classes 10 and 12 plays a crucial role in the IIM Calcutta PI and WAT shortlisting stage.

To calculate the marks obtained in Class 10 and Class 12, IIM Calcutta considers the aggregate marks of all subjects appearing on the marksheet/grade sheet, irrespective of whether the respective board uses those subjects to calculate its official percentage.

After calculating the composite score, the category-wise composite cut-offs are calculated to invite candidates to the Personal Interview and Writing Ability Test.

Stage 3: IIM Calcutta Final Selection Criteria

Candidates who appear for the PI and WAT are evaluated in stage 3 of the IIM selection criteria using a final composite score of 100 marks. The final selection weightage is as follows:

The Personal Interview accounts for 48% of the final composite score while CAT performance contributes 30% and WAT carries 8%. Academic diversity and work experience account for 6% and 8%, respectively.

IIM Calcutta Work Experience Weightage

Candidates who have prior work experience receive additional points in the IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria. It carries 8 marks in the final selection process. The marks are calculated based on the number of completed months of eligible work experience as of January 31, 2027.

The institute does not count the following towards work experience:

  • Internships
  • Apprenticeships
  • Articleships
  • Training
  • Projects undertaken as part of the curriculum
  • Unpaid work

IIM Calcutta Work Experience Points

Here, x = total work experience in completed months.

For example: If a candidate has 18 months of work experience, their score would be 18 ÷ 3 = 6 points. If they have 40 months, the score would be 26 − (40 ÷ 2) = 6 points.

Documents Needed for Work Experience Points 

  • Candidates who claim work experience points need to provide documents such as offer letter and payslips. 
  • Those who are self-employed or run family businesses, alternative documentation such as company registration, relevant licences or tax-payment records are required in case payslips are unavailable.

What Matters the Most in IIM Calcutta Final Selection?

The IIM Calcutta final selection gives the maximum weightage to the Personal Interview. The weightage wise final selection criteria is given below.
