Indian Institute of Management Jammu – IIM Jammu

One of the baby IIMs, the Indian Insititute of Management Jammu was only established recently in 2016, by the Government of India. Still, in its infancy, the institute operates from the Old University Campus in Jammu. A 200-acre permanent campus is coming up in Jagati, 14 km away from Jammu city. The institute has shown steady growth over the years. The highest recorded CTC for the 2023 final placements was INR 64 LPA. IIM Jammu has certainly come a long way since its inception. Campus Life at IIM Jammu

The construction of the proposed permanent campus in Jagti is still ongoing, Currently, the campus has the basic infrastructure such as the academic building equipped with three classrooms, the library, the faculty blocks, a sports arena, and a hostel. The sports arena includes a badminton court, volleyball court, basketball court, and gym.

There are around 15 clubs and committees on campus. A student-driven institute, the Student Council manages all the activities and needs of the students. The other campus committees are the Placement Committee, Sports Committee, Academic Committee, Alumni Committee, IT Committee, and Mess Committee. The clubs include Vipran – the marketing club, VITT – the finance club, Pratibha – the HR club, OpScape – the operations club, Exantics – the analytics club, Consulenza – the consulting club, and Coinage – the economics club.

When you are exhausted and drained from the rigor of the program, the Bagh-e-Bahu, Shri Ranbireshwar Temple, and Rajinder Park are some of the places you can visit close to the campus. Rajinder Park offers a serene environment to relax. Leisure walks around the park while feasting your eyes on the rich flora and fauna will be just what you need when you are overwhelmed with assignments, projects, and placement activities. The Shri Ranbireshwar Temple is a sacred destination in Jammu. And the Bagh-e-Bahu is a picturesque, terraced garden built around the Bahu Fort characterized by waterfalls and sprawling lawns.

Life starts at IIM Jammu at 8:00 in the morning. That is when you will be rushing to the mess to get a quick bite of breakfast before you have to report for the first session at 8:30 am. Classes can go on till 4:00 in the evening, with both lunch and refreshment breaks in between. How you spend your evenings and nights is entirely up to you. Generally, the trend is that you will first work on your assignments, projects, and readings and then once you are done with as much as you can for the day, you’ll move on to the sports grounds. Badminton, basketball, volleyball, leisure walks, club activities, chilling sessions, jamming sessions. Over two years you will learn how to schedule your day’s activities so that you can get the most out of the day as well as the opportunities provided by the institute.

Programs Offered By IIM Jammu

IIM Jammu offers several programs falling under four main categories: Academic Programs, Doctoral programs, Certification Programs, and Executive Programs. These will be discussed in detail in the following table.

Academic Programs

Doctoral Programs

IIM Jammu offers two types of doctoral-level Ph.D. programs. One is the Full-Time PhD program and the other is the PhD program for Working Professionals which is a blended part-time program. The minimum eligibility criteria require that candidates have at least three years of work experience.

Fellowship Details:

1st and 2nd Year: INR 35,000/month

3rd and 4th Year: INR 40,000/month

Contingency Grant: INR 40,000/year

Laptop Purchase: INR 50,000 (one-time)

Attending Conferences: Up to INR 2,00,000

Fellowships are only allowed for full-time research scholars. The fellowship covers academic and living expenses.

Executive Programs

IIM Jammu offers both Management Development Programs and Faculty Development Programs. The MDPs are designed to familiarize working executives with the latest best practices and concepts in management. Four different kinds of MDPs are offered by the institute:

  1. In-Company Programs
  2. Open MDPs
  3. Sponsored MDPs
  4. Certificate Programs (e-MDPs)

The Faculty Development Programs are specifically designed for management teachers and researchers employed in universities, management schools, colleges, and professional institutes.

Certificate Programs

The Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) is a two-year, fully-funded, certificate program in Public Policy & Management offered by the IIMs in association with MSDE. Academic sessions on campus at IIM Jammu are combined with intensive field immersion at the district level. 48 fellows are currently enrolled in this program

Final Placements

The 2023 final placements were concluded with the successful placements of the 239 students who participated. 126 companies participated in the recruitment drive, of which 59 were first-time recruiters. The top recruiters on campus included Amazon, Microsoft, McKinsey & Company, Adani Group, Cognizant, Deloitte, HDFC Bank, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Zycus, EY, SBI Capital Markets, KPMG, EXL Service, Vedanta among others.

Most roles were received from the BFSI sector (32%), followed by IT & Analytics (24%), Consulting (11%), Logistics & E-Commerce (9%), and Energy (6%). Though only 9% of the offers were received from the Operations domain, the domain also had the highest average CTC when compared to those of the other domains (INR 27,33,000).

Summer Placements

The summer placements of the 7th batch of the MBA program at IIM Jammu witnessed the participation of 116 firms and then subsequent successful placements of 252 students. Of the total number of participating firms, 42 of them were first-time recruiters on campus. 70% of the batch were freshers and 71% of the batch came from engineering and commerce backgrounds.

IPMAT is only conducted for admissions into the IPM programs of IIM Rohtak and IIM Indore and they are conducted separately. JIPMAT on the other hand is commonly conducted for both IIM Bodhgaya and IIM Jammu by the National Testing Agency.

IIM Jammu has gradually been improving its placement performance. From a INR 9.4 LPA average CTC in 2019, this year the institute recorded an average CTC of INR 16.43 LPA. The Highest CTC offered for the 2023 placement performance was INR 64 LPA. In 2019, the same was only INR 12.91 LPA.

No. IIM Jammu does not provide scholarships. However, students can opt for both government and private scholarships. The institute provides decent ROI.

At IIM Jammu students can be shortlisted either through CAP or SAP. The percentile cutoffs generally vary between both. The percentile cutoffs for SAP is usually slightly lower than that for CAP. For the General category applicants, the minimum sectional cutoffs is 70 percentile.
