There are two stages involved in the selection process for the IPMAT exam, which are the Aptitude Test and the Personal Interview.
Note- Only IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak have 2 stages in the selection process, JIPMAT does not take any Interviews, they only consider the aptitude test score for admissions.

Stage 1: Aptitude Test

It is a computer-based test, conducted by IIMs and NTA, which tests skills like logical and analytical skills based on whose scores, you are selected for Stage 2, which is the Personal Interview. The Syllabus and the Exam Pattern of each IPMAT Exam (IPMAT Indore, IPMAT Rohtak, JIPMAT exam) are discussed below.

Stage 2: Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview

The candidates who clear Stage 1 (Aptitude Test) are selected for Stage 2, which is your Written Ability Test (WAT) and/or Personal Interview (PI).

Written Ability Test- In the Written Ability Test (WAT), the selected candidates are given a topic/theme, on which they have to write a certain no. of words set by the admission committee. WAT tests your writing skills, knowledge, and your command of the language.
Note- WAT is not conducted anymore in most of the colleges according to the latest IPMAT Exam Pattern.

Personal Interview- Candidates who qualify the Aptitude Test round are shortlisted for Stage 2, the Personal Interview round. In the PI round, the interviewer tests your interpersonal skills, your confidence, and your subject knowledge and frames questions around your profile. This is administered by the Admission Committee. The Interview can be either online or offline.

  • Start your preparation with the topics that are of high-weightage in the IPMAT exam.
  • Give equal importance to each section, especially the students who are targeting the IPMAT Indore as there is a sectional cutoff in the IPMAT Indore exam.
  • Don’t sit for long hours in your initial preparation, if you do not have a long long-sitting habit. Gradually increase your hours of preparation.

By doing so you will cover 30 questions each day, which is 900 questions monthly, by strategically targeting each topic. With continued practice, you can also increase the number of questions.
  • For the VARC section, Start reading newspapers or online news articles which will help you to improve your vocabulary as well as your general knowledge, which can also help you in acing the interviews.
  • Refer to the previous years’ question paper to know how the questions are asked. You can check and attempt the IPMAT Previous Year papers here
  • Try and give as many MOCKS as you can, which will help you to get exam-ready and also help you to solve the question paper in time.
